Gerrard to miss Swiss clash after surgery on groin

Steven Gerrard will miss England's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland at Wembley in June after having surgery to cure his groin injury. The Liverpool captain, out since early March, now faces a race to be fit for the start of next season and has no chance of playing the Swiss in Group G at Wembley on June 4. Gerrard, 30, suffered a setback as he attempted to recover from the injury without surgery but a Liverpool statement said the operation had been 'successful'.
