Lasley playing through the pain

Motherwell midfielder Keith Lasley admits the potential prize of a top-six place and Scottish Cup final is helping him push through the pain barrier in every game. Lasley has been taking painkillers for a rib problem since taking a heavy knock in Motherwell's cup win at Stranraer more than two months ago. "I've still got a little bit of a problem," the 31-year-old said. "We have a few injuries and it's not the biggest squad in the league. It's not stopping me playing, there are a few guys in the same boat playing with knocks." He added: "It's a crucial part of the season and it's all about getting the boys on the pitch and doing what we can." The former Plymouth player battled on after taking another knock to the same area during Saturday's 2-1 win over Aberdeen with all three substitutions made. And he admitted he was "running on empty" as Well held on to the same scoreline against Dundee United on Wednesday. With Steve Jennings still suspended and Francis Jeffers, Gavin Gunning and Stevie Hammell likely to remain out against Hearts on Saturday, Lasley and others will continue to put their bodies on the line as Motherwell look to secure a top-half finish in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. "You saw towards the end we were starting to tire but hopefully we can recharge before Saturday," he said. "Especially when you've got a lead to hang on to, you are just doing what you can to get the points. "It was a big three points the other night, it still might not be enough but we knew that would be a big step."
