Bury 3-0 Oxford Utd: Match Report

Shakers kick on Managerless Bury showed there is life after Alan Knill with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Oxford. The Shakers boosted their automatic promotion hopes by completing the double over Oxford in comfortable fashion. Nicky Ajose fired them in front in the first minute with a volleyed shot from 16 yards after hesitation from United centre-half Harry Worley. The division's top scorer, Ryan Lowe, drilled a low shot under Oxford goalkeeper Ryan Clarke on 63 minutes to make it 2-0, for his 25th goal of the season. And the impressive Ajose followed that with a similar goal, from a similar position, as he shot low to beat Clarke at his near post. That was Ajose's ninth goal in 15 starts for Bury, who chalked up their first win in five games, and appeared to show no ill effects from this week's departure of Knill and his coaching staff to Scunthorpe. Substitute Andy Haworth almost made it four near the end, but Clarke got down well to save his shot. Oxford's own play-off hopes were dealt a big blow by this defeat, but they had been poor on the day, with only Steve MacLean testing the Bury keeper.
