Ward: That was for the fans

Stockport caretaker manager Peter Ward was delighted to turn "nervous tension" into a 2-1 win over Oxford. Substitute Greg Tansey produced a stunning 20-yard strike in the final minute of injury time after Matt Paterson had cancelled out Oxford striker Tom Craddock's opener. The visitors' woe was compounded by Anthony Tonkin's dismissal in the second half. Ward said: "We made hard work of it, especially against the 10 men. We should have known how to play against them and how to hurt them. "It took a while for us to settle down. There was a lot of nervous tension out there. We could feel it, everybody could feel it. "But I'm just pleased for the fans and especially the lads. They've put a lot of effort in, particularly last week. The games have been coming on Saturdays and Tuesdays and I haven't been able to do what I wanted to do and turn the squad around. "We had some good performances in midfield, by James Wallace for instance."
