Marlon Loan!

Barnsley bag striker! Barnsley boss Mark Robins has made a major move into the loan market by signing Blackpool striker Marlon Harewood until the end of the season! The 31 year old has scored 117 goals in his 403 game career with eight clubs and has notched five in 16 Premier League games for Blackpool this season- including two on his debut in the stunning 4-0 win at Wigan in August. The arrivals of James Beattie and Jason Puncheon have pushed Harewood down the pecking order at Bloomfield Road, although he did start the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa two weeks ago. Robins told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: “Marlon is a great addition to the squad. He has scored 5 Premier League goals this season and is a proven quality player. I am looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season.  "I would like to thank Blackpool FC and Ian Holloway for letting him come to Barnsley and also Patrick Cryne for getting this deal done”  It is believed The Reds beat off competition from local rivals Sheffield United to bring Harewood to Oakwell but the former Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Aston Villa, Wolves and Newcastle striker may have been signed too late to make his debut in this afternoon’s home game with Norwich. One loanee will also have to miss out as Football League rules state that a club’s matchday squad can only contain five loan players at any one time and Harewood is the sixth, joining Frank Nouble, Jacob Mellis, Kieran Trippier, Paul McShane and Diego Arismendi.
