We feel for Chris - Gannon

Port Vale manager Jim Gannon absolved goalkeeper Chris Martin of any blame but could not hide his frustration at the 3-1 defeat to Stevenage. Anthony Griffith's backpass rolled over Martin's foot and into the net for the opener before Peter Winn made it 2-0. Sam Morsy pulled one back with his first senior goal for Vale, but David Bridges wrapped up the points in the 67th minute. Gannon said: "We all feel for Chris Martin. Conceding a goal like that isn't something nice to have on your record, but these things happen and we've all seen international goalkeepers make similar mistakes. "The result is a big disappointment because we wanted to build on what we had started, but a few of the players were not at it and we've now got to pick ourselves up and go again. "When you reflect on the chances we had there could have been a lot more goals in the game, but Stevenage are tough to beat and when they scored first I thought it was going to be difficult for us. "The substitutions we made at half-time enabled us to get onto the front foot and we were looking to kick on after Sam scored to pull one back, but then we got hit on the break."
