Under 21 boss Stuart Pearce: England's more important than Manchester United or Liverpool

Stuart Pearce last night called for Sunday matches to be cancelled before international weeks. The England Under 21 boss, who has been hit by 11 withdrawals for today's friendly against Italy in Empoli, said: 'No fixtures on the Sunday would be sensible. If the national team underachieves there's a clamour by 60million people. 'If Manchester United or Liverpool don't win the title, their part of the country will be disappointed, but not like the national team.'
