Stoke 3 Sunderland 2: Robert Huth hits injury time winner to stun Black Cats

John Carew was hardly concerned that his first club goal for nine barren months was cloaked in controversy. His part in Stoke's win left Sunderland boss Steve Bruce unhappy with his defenders, particularly goalkeeper Craig Gordon, for a lack of bravery. Pure delight: Stoke celebrate their dramatic win Bruce then took a swipe at referee Lee Probert and his officials for failing with their decisions. For 6ft 5in Carew it was simply an afternoon of perfection. Replays confirmed that the powerful Norwegian's goal was offside and that team-mate Robert Huth actually made the last touch for the second as it was going over the line. Slide rule: Robert Huth (right) clinches three points Stoke boss Tony Pulis said 'The two of them are in there arguing about who should be credited with the goals. Robert got the winner later so they can sort it out between themselves.' Carew enthused: 'To score is always important but to score in your home debut (he is on loan from Aston Villa) makes it special for me. They complained but it is a contact game.' Crisp finish: Asamoah Gyan beats Asmir Begovic Sunderland took the lead through a perfect strike from Kieran Richardson after two minutes, surrendered it with Carew's first and regained the advantage with an Asamoah Gyan effort two minutes into the second half. Bruce was clearly upset when he said: 'Our defenders have to be braver. They have to remember they can head the ball. I want our goalkeeper to do better, too. 'But you also need the match officials to play their part. Stoke's first two goals were offside. For all we did, for all the good football we produced, it meant nothing in the end.' Pulis said the result was of massive importance to his club, adding: 'We had the momentum. They came here with five defenders and that made it difficult for us. 'We have played four consecutive awaymatches so it was good to win. 'If there are complaints about the goalsI still think we deserved them.' We've been sold short!
