McKenna lands captain's armband

Fellow new arrival Lee Camp will be the club's vice captain for the new season. McKenna's appointment comes as little surprise as the midfielder was captain of Preston during Reds boss Billy Davies' time in charge at Deepdale. The 31-year-old takes over the armband from defender James Perch, who faces three months out with a broken bone in his shin. Davies also has previous experience of Camp, signed from QPR this summer, having managed the goalkeeper at Derby. "Paul McKenna is an outstanding captain and leader and he will take care of things on the pitch," Davies told the club's official website. "He will be pushing and pulling people around on the pitch. He is a good communicator but he is a nasty little so-and-so as well, not only with the opposition but also with his own team-mates when they are not doing jobs properly. "We have also selected a vice-captain in Lee Camp, who has a real strength of character and who loves the sound of his own voice. I like the way Lee goes about his business. He is opinionated, but I like that, and he will be great for the off-the-field things that need sorting."
