Manchester City failed with a ?4m deadline-day bid for Belgium international winger Yassine El Ghanassy. The 20-year-old, who helped unfancied Gent finish league runners-up and win the Belgian Cup last season, can play on either flank and was seen as a stop-gap for Adam Johnson but with potential for the future. Gent turned down City and Villarreal but will listen to offers in the summer.
