West Brom's striker Peter Odemwingie sets himself 15-goal target for the season
Target: Peter Odemwingie is hoping to score at least six more goals Peter Odemwingie has set himself a 15-goal target for the season to help save West Brom from an instant return to the Championship.Odemwingie scored his ninth goal of the campaign during last night's 2-2 home draw with fellow strugglers Wigan.He is taking pride from being on a par goal-wise with some of the big name strikers in the Barclays Premier League.But Odemwingie is determined to maintain his standards and add at least half a dozen goals in the Baggies' final 14 matches of the campaign.He said: 'There have been other strikers moving from club to club and it gives me quite a bit of pride to have similar goal figures to them.'At the moment the top strikers in the Premier League have about eight or nine goals, the same as myself.'It gives me a lot of confidence that I have the same number of goals as the top strikers of good teams in England have.'I think nine goals so far is a good achievement in the Premier League where getting goals is not that easy.'I won't say I found it easy. I think I am being fed a lot with the ball.'That's why I get chances to score. If I had taken the chances I've missed, I would now be counting 12-13 goals.'Odemwingie added: 'There are 14 games to go and I hope I will get to 15 goals.'The target was to get to double figures, minimum, and I am nearly there, just one more goal.'But I won't be happy with one more goal. I will keep pushing to get to 15 and will keep working on my finishing.'Odemwingie believes Albion now have the resilience needed to survive as demonstrated by their recovery to earn a draw against the Latics via substitute Marc-Antoine Fortune's late equaliser.'Eddie Newton (assistant manager) rightly said that in situations like that a few weeks ago we would have lost the game. Top scorer: Odemwingie (right) is mobbed after scoring against Wigan 'That is a positive thing about the team now, that we don't give up until the last minute and we really play to the last minute.'Wigan midfielder Ben Watson, who had a loan spell with Albion last season, spelt out what is needed for Roberto Martinez's side to stay in the top flight.Watson said: We've got 13 games left and we have got to give it our best shot.'We probably need five or six wins. That is the aim. That is our challenge and we are relishing it.'Every point counts. Every game is like a cup final.'We've got Blackburn next and they have picked up a bit of form.'But, if we continue to play like against West Brom, I don't see there will be any problems.'Watson scored Wigan's second goal but chose not to over-celebrate.He said: 'It was limited. I enjoyed my time here at West Brom, the fans were good to me, so I showed them a bit of respect.'
