Benni McCarthy has knocked back West Ham's ?1million offer to terminate his contract. McCarthy has been left out of the Hammers 25-man Premier League squad after just 14 appearances in his 12 months at the club and has considered quitting. But with 18 months left on his contract he could collect ?2.7m in wages and has rejected the club's offer to rip up his deal. But a move failed to materialise while nothing came of speculation linking McCarthy with clubs in the Middle East. McCarthy had injury problems and has also struggled with his weight since arriving at Upton Park from Blackburn for ?2.2m. He was threatened with a fine if he did not shed the pounds last summer. The arrival of strikers Robbie Keane and Demba Ba has pushed McCarthy further down the pecking order and he could go to a Championship club when the emergency loan window opens again next week.
