Wilder grateful to keeper Clarke

Oxford manager Chris Wilder was full of praise for goalkeeper Ryan Clarke following a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham. Wes Thomas put Cheltenham in front in the 25th minute with a fine strike into the roof of the net but Tom Craddock levelled in the 33rd minute, heading a Damian Batt cross into the bottom corner. Thomas had a golden opportunity to clinch all three points for the visitors, but Clarke got down well to save his 80th minute penalty following Anthony Tonkin's foul on Brian Smikle. Wilder said: "We were indebted to Ryan Clarke at the end. I didn't see much in the penalty, but he got us out of it, and all credit to him. "The play was good from back to front. But, after getting ourselves back in it, we started to over-elaborate at times just before half-time. "And we really should have gone for the jugular there and then. We dominated the second half without putting the opposition to bed."
