Cherries: Feeney eager for Lee to remain

LIAM Feeney handed the new Dean Court management duo their first victory and then revealed Cherries' stars wanted them to land the job permanently. The in-form winger blasted a 62nd-minute winner as Cherries recorded a memorable 1-0 success over League One leaders Brighton on Saturday. Feeney's strike ensured a perfect result for caretaker boss Lee Bradbury and his player-assistant Steve Fletcher in their first home match since taking charge following Eddie Howe's decision to join Burnley. Chairman Eddie Mitchell has described the rookie pair as the main contenders to succeed Howe on a longer-term basis, but plans to continue biding his time before making a final decision. Feeney boosted their chances of getting the job with a superb volley, which proved enough to beat high-flying Albion in front of a sell-out crowd at Dean Court. And Feeney, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Friday, is aiming to continue pressing the claims of Bradbury and Fletcher with his performances. When asked by the Echo if he hoped they would get the job on a permanent basis, he said: Yes, definitely. They have been amazing so far and it has been like nothing has changed. We have carried on training with the same tempo and intensity, and the little things and rituals we do haven't changed. It is showing in the results and we are carrying on exactly where we left off. All the lads hope that they get it on a permanent basis. We will go out every week and try to put in the performances to show our feelings. He added: We said before the game that nothing changes for us and we are the same group of lads and are going to put in the same amount of work. We have tried not to change anything. It wasn't broken so we didn't try to fix it. It showed that the lads are still working just as hard for them (Bradbury and Fletcher) as we did for Eddie and Jason. Hopefully, if we keep getting the positive results and putting in the performances, they will get it on a longer-term deal or permanently. Feeney, who felt his match-winning effort was one of the best goals of his career, also expressed his faith in Cherries' promotion challenge after they moved back up to second spot. He added: The league table doesn't lie this far into the season. We're there on merit and we are currently the second best team in the league. We take great pride in that and are going to try to kick on and see how far we can go.
