Barton Offered New Contract

Joey Barton, who has been in superb form this season, looks set to sign a new deal with the club. Allegedly he has attracted the interest of a number of clubs, including Aston Villa and West Ham, but it has been confirmed today the midfielder will sit down with Newcastle officials "very soon". The midfielder has 18 months to run on his current contract.
