Aston Villa bid for Charlie Adam rejected by Blackpool
Aston Villa have had a £2.5million bid for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam rejected, Ian Holloway has confirmed.Birmingham bossAlex McLeish is also expected to continue his pursuit of Adam having also had an initial offer, believed to be around £2m, turned down.Holloway has previously said Adam would only leave if one of the Barclays Premier League's biggest clubs come calling - with a sizeable offer - and he insists that position has not changed. 'I spoke to Charlie this morning and he knows where I am coming from, and I know where he is coming from. 'The chairman has had a couple of calls and he has told those clubs exactly where we are. We have got no reason to sell anyone. We are a well-run club and we want to add in this window, not lose anyone. 'It's not important to keep a player if a player doesn't want to be here - it's important to keep working with him to achieve one of his ultimate goals, which is to play for one of the top four or five, or even six, clubs. Six appeal: Scotland international Adam would only be leaving Blackpool to join one of the top six clubs in the country, insists Seasiders' boss Holloway 'We have got him for 18 months on his contract and if one of those top clubs I told him this morning come in then I might have to consider it, but they would have to offer the right amount of money for this club to move forward.'Adam joined Blackpool in a £500,000 deal from Rangers last season and proved the inspiration for the club's surprise charge to promotion to the Premier League.He was linked with a move earlier this season after a contract dispute with Blackpool over unpaid bonus payments.Adam successfully argued he was due a bonus after promotion but the Premier League ruled, crucially, his contract had not been breached.Adifferent verdict could have led to him cancelling his contract and leaving for another club as a free agent.Holloway added: 'At the end of day it will probably be another storm in a teacup, like it was when he was going to go and be out of contract.Out of favour: Blues midfielder Michel could soon be on his way out of St Andrew's to AEK Athens 'That was a waste of time. You all got excited but it fizzled out and ended up being nothing.'Holloway has already indicated he would be surprisedif any of his players wanted to leave this month unless one of theleading clubs expressed an interest.But that will not stop McLeish maintaining his interest as he closes in on the loan signing David Bentley from Tottenham, subject to him completing a medical.McLeish also remains optimistic Rangers striker Kenny Miller will moveto St Andrew's despite reports that he has rejected the move.The former Scotland boss said: 'We are delighted David has chose us because there were half a dozen other clubs interested and he is a quality player. 'As for Kenny, he's not said yes or no. He's not knocked us back as some reports have suggested. Let's wait and see.' Meanwhile, Birmingham midfielder Michel is wanted by AEK Athens in a loan deal until the end of the season. Michel has been unable to earn a first-team spot since his £3m move from Sporting Gijon 12 months ago. An indication of how far down the pecking order he has slipped was youngster Jordon Mutch playing ahead of him in Saturday's FA Cup tie with Millwall after returning from a loan spell at Watford.
