Berwick Hope To Take Celtic

Can Berwick Rangers see off the SPL league leaders? Paul McMullan is confident that Berwick can pull off a shock Scottish Cup fourth-round result with a win over Celtic at Shielfield on Sunday. The Third Division part-timers are underdogs against Neil Lennon's side. Former Hearts midfielder McMullan is well aware of the size of the task the Borderers face - but he refuses to rule out a win which would represent Berwick's finest hour since they famously knocked Rangers out of the same competition back in 1967. He said: "I do believe we can take something from the game. I genuinely believe that. There is no reason why we can't beat them. I've never been such an underdog going into a game. When you play in an Edinburgh derby you are expected to win, no matter which team you play for and we are a few divisions below Celtic but we don't fear them at all. It's obviously exciting to play in such a big game as a third division player and they are expected to beat us - but it's 11 against 11. We hope that they come to Berwick and think its going to be easy. If we don't give them time to play or get comfortable then hopefully we can make it as has hard as possible for them. But even if they took a lot of goals off us, I don't think it would be an embarrassment. They are expected to do that to us whereas we are so much the underdogs, there is no pressure, nothing to lose and we can go at them and it's something that everyone at the club will look forward to." College student McMullan enjoyed the media coverage at a Glasgow hotel to publicise the tie and hopes that a good performance in front of the Sky cameras would help him win a move back to full-time football. He said: "I will never give up - even when I'm 42 I will still be looking for the big move. The game is on Sky and I'm sure a lot of other managers will be watching and it's an opportunity for everyone who plays on the day - maybe one of the Celtic boys will get a move to Berwick, you never know!  I am a confident individual. I believe that if you train hard and keep going regardless of how many setbacks you receive, there is always an opportunity that can take you a step forward. I'm at college studying fitness, health and exercise. I would love to work within youth development in football. I have experience of coming through youth systems and I believe that I can help youngsters prepare themselves for their football lives. When I was at Hearts I didn't realise how good things were until I left. But given that opportunity again, I would train that wee bit harder and stay that bit more in the gym."
