Steve McClaren hails Edin Dzeko with £30m striker on brink of sealing Manchester City move

Steve McClaren has backed Edin Dzeko to pay back every penny of the £30million Manchester City are set to hand Wolfsburg for his services. The Bosnian is on the verge of a switch to Eastlands after Wolfsburg manager McClaren sanctioned a deal to let his star striker leave the Bundelsiga. Dzeko is set to become the biggest transfer of the January window and former England boss McClaren said: 'He is a very, very good player and that is reflected in the price. Heading for the Premier League: Dzeko is poised to join Manchester City'He is a big lad, strong and quick too. But he also has good technique. 'Most importantly he is a goal scorer who gets them with his left foot, his right foot, his head. He can score all types of goals. That is what City are getting. He is a good buy for them. 'He is a good boy, he needs to work harder now he is in the Premier League than he does at present but he will adjust, no problem. Big loss: McClaren must do without Dzeko'He is also a good age, just 24. Strangely he reminds me of Alen Boksic, who I worked with at Middlesbrough, in the way he plays and scores. But he is probably a better all-round player than him and definitely has something that City miss. 'He will be ideal for City, especially alongside Carlos Tevez. That will be a very potent partnership, very strong. I wish him well at City and hope he succeeds and fulfils his dream and potential there.' Dzeko was the top scorer in the German top flight last season with 22 goals and boasts a career record of 84 in 142 games. He netted nine times in the last World Cup qualifying campaign. Dzeko can help fire City to glory this season, insists title-chasing BoatengReal Madrid move for Manchester City misfit Emmanuel Adebayor hinges on Edin Dzeko switchBayern make late bid to hijack Man City move for striker DzekoEXCLUSIVE: Manchester City chairman in bid to save Dzeko deal All the latest Manchester City news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Steve McClaren Places: United Kingdom
