Verma aims to continue good start

Aman Verma has wasted little time in setting a favourable impression at Darlington, and the midfielder hopes his displays will be enough to impress Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. The 23-year-old is on loan to Quakers from the Championship club and last week scored the winner versus Tamworth in only the third game of his temporary stay. His loan ends in January, though it could be extended, especially as manager Mark Cooper has been impressed with his performances so far. "Aman used his strength to score last week, he's a strong boy," said Cooper. "There's more to come from him because he's a good footballer and he'll be a useful acquisition." A spate of postponements have restricted Verma's opportunities to shine while with Darlington, though he continues to spend part of the week with Leicester where Eriksson was appointed in October. "Sven is in training everyday, he watches every session., but I've not spoken to him yet," said Verma. "I train with Leicester at the start of the week, Mondays and Tuesdays, unless Darlington have got a midweek game, and then I train up here at the end of the week. "At the moment, with there being new management and new owners, I think it's going to be quite hard to get involved with the first-team for a while. "It's hard to tell whether I had more of a chance before the new manager came in. I played in a few friendlies during pre-season and I thought I played pretty well so I thought I might be on the fringes of the first-team "I played one game, in the League Cup against Macclesfield, that was my debut, but apart from that I haven't really been involved. Verma did not turn professional until the comparatively late age of 21, after signing for Leicester from non-League Redditch United. He now wants to make up for lost time and he wants to continue the good start he has made at The Northern Echo Arena. "21 is late to be starting and I'm 23 now but at least I've got the opportunity," he said. "In the reserves at Leicester I've scored a few. The last one I got was a header and I've scored from outside the box. "But if I get the opportunity I like getting into the penalty area to try and score. "I've been playing more of a holding position rather than bombing forward, I've just been holding my position. "Last week we played a very attacking formation so that gave me the licence to get forward. "But before I joined Leicester I was more of an attacking midfielder. I scored a lot of goals for Redditch, but that was a completely different standard."
