Smith expects further postponements

Rangers manager Walter Smith is bracing himself for further postponements after their game against Dundee United was thrown into doubt. The Scottish champions are set to travel to Tannadice on Tuesday night for their rearranged Clydesdale Bank Premier League game. But adverse weather conditions mean a question mark now hangs over the fixture, with Smith acknowledging the safety of fans must be the priority. "That was the reason we had the whole card cancelled a couple of weeks ago, the fact that conditions for supporters travelling in weren't ideal," he said. "That would still stand at the present moment but we will just have to wait and see what the decision is and it's the police who would make that decision as much as any other body." Rangers' game against Hearts at the beginning of the month was postponed when the whole SPL fixture card was wiped out by the weather. They were then denied football again at the weekend when burst pipes caused significant water damage at Ibrox, resulting in their meeting with St Mirren being called off. Smith said: "There seems to be varying conditions in different parts of the country, when you look at both Dundee and Hearts playing at the weekend. They seemed to get games okay. "Conditions have deteriorated since the weekend but they managed to get those games in the east at the weekend. "We would want, if it could, for the game to go ahead but taking into account the situation of the travelling support, we will just have to wait and see." He added: "We are obviously going to have a fixture backlog and ours will be worse if we have a run in the Europa League. That's our problem above any other team."
