Clarkson: It was time to leave Well

The 23-year-old left the Fir Park outfit after eight years after an undisclosed bid was accepted. Clarkson believes the time might have come for the SFA to assess the state of the Scottish game with Brian Easton, James McCarthy and Steven Fletcher also joining English clubs this summer. "I felt it was the right time to leave Motherwell as I had been there for eight years," he told the Daily Record. "I loved my time there but I'm 23 and it was the right time and place to move on. There were other players who felt the same. "Nowadays there are more young players coming through and there are more Championship sides coming in for Scottish players. "Maybe it is something that has to be looked at."
