Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has targeted left-back free-agent Joe Martin.
The former Blackpool youngster has been training with the Gills for the past two weeks and made a big impact in the behind-close-doors friendly match against Dagenham.
With Callum Kennedy returning to Swindon, after his loan spell has expired at the weekend, the signing of Martin would give the Gills boss a welcome selection headache.
Hessenthaler told the club's official website: "We've had a look at Joe in training and we were impressed with his performance in the friendly with Dagenham.
"I've spoken to the chairman and had a chat with the lad and we are going to put something to him.
"He has not played for a club this season so we will be able to sign him as a non-contract player. If we can agree terms, then he will be available to go straight into the travelling squad for the Macclesfield game on Sunday."
