The former Brighton manager has taken his first training session with the Saints after being appointed as Alan Pardew's number two and admitted that with only a week to go until the big kick-off there is plenty of work still to do.
He told the Southern Daily Echo: "Looking at the club over the past there's been a lot of things going on both on and off the pitch, but we're trying to bring some stability to it.
"There will be a very strong work ethic to try and get the side winning again.
"There is big potential, but it takes time to realise that as well."
