Quakers' fringe players given a run-out

A Darlington XI featuring a handful of players with first-team experience drew 2-2 with a youthful Newcastle United XI yesterday. Quakers boss Mark Cooper arranged the match to give a run-out to players that have not seen much first-team action recently. Paul Arnison, Joe Clarke, Josh Gray, Jamie Chandler, Jefferson Louis and Chris Senior all featured as did Dan Burn and Phil Gray in a team that was otherwise made up of youth players and trialists. Sammy Ameobi gave Newcastle the lead before Senior equalised with the Magpies going ahead again only to see Darlington level once more when an unnamed trialist got on the scoresheet. As well as Ameobi, included in the Magpies side were Alex Baird, Brad Inman, Jeff Henderson, Michael Riley, Louis Storey, Yven Moyo, Patrick Nzuzi, Patrick McGorrigan and Dennis Knight. After watching the friendly, Cooper travelled to Bootham Crescent to spy on York City, who Quakers play at home on Saturday in the FA Cup second round, against Southport. York won 2-0 so are now 12th, one place and two points behind Darlington, having won three games in a row without conceding a goal.
