Arter: Cherries players have to take the blame

HARRY Arter refused to blame a catalogue of injury misfortune for Cherries' latest collapse at Leyton Orient. The midfielder insisted the players had to shoulder total responsibility after again pressing the self-destruct button. Jonathan Tehoue's late double wiped out Cherries' 2-0 lead and forced them to settle for a 2-2 draw at Brisbane Road. Tehoue profited from some charitable defending after Cherries had been rocked by the loss of both Shaun Cooper and Shwan Jalal. But Arter, the architect of Marc Pugh's second goal, said the injuries could not be used as an excuse after Cherries had again frittered precious points on the road. He told the Daily Echo: We played brilliantly. But we find ourselves going over the same things, especially away from home, because we keep chucking away silly goals when we're dominating games. It's starting to get on the manager's nerves and rightly so. It was obvious why he was so disappointed and, in a way, he didn't really need to tell us what was wrong because we all knew. He is in his full right to have a go at us because it has happened too many times now. It is totally down to us and we know that. If it had happened once, we could say it was a one-off. But, as a group, we realise it has happened too many times and we need to learn from it sooner rather than later because it is getting really frustrating. I don't know whether it's a lack of concentration or a lack of belief. When a team scores one, we get nervous and we allowed Orient to nick a second. Even when they got their first goal, I didn't think they would go on to get a second and was confident we could shut them out. To concede two sloppy goals in the last 10 minutes was very disappointing. Arter, who was preferred to Liam Feeney in the starting line-up, made way after 75 minutes having provided the assist for Pugh to double Cherries' lead early in the second half. Pugh had opened the scoring with a thunderous drive after just two minutes. It was a great goal, added Arter, who was handed his third league start of the season. It was the start every away team dreams of. After that, we kept the ball well and dominated. The manager gave me my chance which I appreciated. When I come in, I try to set a target of either scoring or setting up a goal so was happy to contribute with the assist.
