Roberts 'relaxed' about future
Unsettled striker Jason Roberts has insisted he will score goals if selected by Blackburn after finding the target against Wigan. Roberts struck what turned out to be a decisive blow at Ewood Park on Saturday as Rovers beat his former club 2-1.The striker's involvement has been limited during the early part of the season after falling out of favour with manager Sam Allardyce, while he has also had injury problems.But he believes he has shown throughout his career that he can always be relied upon to provide a goal threat."I am totally relaxed. My record in every league shows I can score goals so I am totally relaxed about it," he told the Lancashire Telegraph."It is no surprise if I come in and score goals, it is not a big deal, it is what you do. You miss some, you score some but you keep going. "My record suggests I will score goals if I play so I am comfortable, will train hard, keep doing what I have done all my career, which got me here, and whatever happens, happens. "I will endeavour to keep getting in the team and if selected I will do the best I can. That is what I have always done, whether I have played good, bad or indifferent."Roberts' long-term future remains unclear, with Allardyce admitting over the weekend that he was surprised the 32-year-old did not leave during the summer. His situation will be reassessed when the transfer window reopens in the New Year and Roberts is not sure what to expect.He explained: "For me I will keep trying to get in the team and come January, like me and the manager have said, we will look at it again. "What I have done in the past shows what I can do. I have got goals at all levels, I have got no problem. If someone wants to do something about it they will, if they don't they don't." While Roberts' own spirits have been lifted by the goal, he admits it was also important for Rovers to pick up three points and start climbing the table."It was a big game for us. We didn't play very well and yet we have played really well and lost games," he said."That was the other side of the fence and I am happy with that. It is always good to be playing and scoring goals and part of a winning team and that is what happened. "The dressing room is buzzing and hopefully it is a turnaround in our season. It is good to be part of that. "It is great paying football. It is great to be out there, running about, scoring goals with your team mates and working hard for each other and most importantly winning."
