Gerrard reflects on 'difficult year'

iverpool captain Steven Gerrard has conceded the last 12 months have been the most difficult of his career but is confident the worst is over. Gerrard admits Liverpool's poor form last season and the takeover turmoil surrounding the club "messed" with his mind. The 30-year-old now hopes things are on the up for the club under new owners New England Sports Ventures and he is looking forward to a bright new era at Anfield."I think the last 12 months have been the most difficult since I was 18 when I broke into the first team," said Gerrard"Finishing seventh in the league and the stuff that went on off the pitch has made it a difficult time to be a Liverpool player."It was exactly what I didn't need, personally, after the World Cup. Exactly what the club didn't need as well. It's been a shock to a lot of people, me included."On the back of the disappointment with the World Cup you are hoping to come back to your club and get off to a positive start."You can try to put the World Cup behind you. But if you like, it's sort of continued from then in terms of disappointment. It's been a really tough start to the season."Hopefully that is all behind us now. We're just glad to get the ownership turmoil sorted out. Now the debt has gone off the club and we have a new era with new owners and a new manager."Gerrard admits he is feeling a lot happier with his side's recent improvement after a tough start to the new season."Results are starting to turn and improve. So yeah, I'm a lot happier and confident that things can be brighter moving forward," added Gerrard."But looking back, you heard rumours that the takeover was going to happen. Then it doesn't happen and that messes with your mind."Your moods change when you hear different news at different times."I always had belief. We were told to be patient and eventually we would get the right fix - and we have got it."I wouldn't like to say we have definitely turned the corner but we are certainly on our way around it."I have seen the owners and I came out of the meeting very happy with what I'd heard. They gave me my chance to say what I thought."Now we move on and hopefully the good times can return very soon."
