Wear Your Poppy With Pride At Celtic!

AT LAST Celtic are trying to get the rabble out of football. Celtic boss Neil Lennon has backed the club's promise to ban those behind Saturday's anti-poppy banner. Lennon, from Lurgan in Northern Ireland, backed the club's promise to take action against the fans group known as the Green Brigade who unfurled a banner during half-time of the 9-0 win over Aberdeen which read: "Your deeds would shame all the devils in Hell. Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan. No bloodstained poppy on our Hoops." Lennon: "I support the club's stance on it, the statement that was made on Monday. "It's a sensitive issue with a lot of supporters, for and against. "I go with the club's statement and I want to draw a line under that." Scottish Premier League chief executive Neil Doncaster: "The club is currently carrying out an investigation into this matter. "When it is concluded, it is the club's intention to ban those identified as responsible from Celtic Park. "Celtic fans have rightly earned a magnificent reputation for their positive behaviour and backing of the club. It is extremely disappointing that the actions of a small minority have embarrassed Celtic and tarnished the club in this way. "These actions have no place at Celtic Park and, clearly, we apologise for any offence caused." We applaud the SPL . and Celtic Football Club . for making a stand. There is no place in football for this type of demonstration. This week we have been flooded with e-mails from GENUINE FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS backing our article shown below: Celtic, who claim bigotry doesn't exist in their club anymore, have banned a charity from selling poppies at Parkhead for Rememberance Sunday. The ban follows protests by supporters who claim poppies are " hugely insensitive" to Irish fans. How about the Celtic poppy ban being " hugely insensitive" to the families of Scottish soldiers who have died serving their country? After all Celtic DO officially play in the Scottish League? The Poppy Appeal, with its 48 member charities, helps raise millions for war veterans injured in active service. A charity insider said : " We've never been turned away by any of the big clubs and we find it shocking that Celtic would implement this ban ." As if that is not bad enough . 100 fans walked out of a match in 2008 when players wore poppies on their shirts! Totally undefendable. What the hell is that all about? Our young goalkeeper Fraser Forster is on loan at the club until the end of the season, although he can be recalled in January if Steve Harper's recovery from injury doesn't go to plan.
