Terry eager to maintain momentum

Chelsea captain John Terry insists it is vital the Blues pile more pressure on the chasing pack as they enter a crucial period of the season. Carlo Ancelotti's side go to Liverpool on Sunday looking for a win that will maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League. But after a poor start to the campaign, Roy Hodgson's side have won their last three games including victory over Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday night.Chelsea have 10 league games between now and the end of the calendar year plus two Champions League matches.Three of their league games in December feature a high-profile clash with Manchester United, plus away games at Arsenal and Tottenham and Terry says it is vital they gather as many points as they can in the build-up to a frantic period."If we continue this run until Christmas when the games come thick and fast it proves difficult for the opposition, the teams in second, third or fourth if the gap is getting no closer because of us winning," said Terry. "It gets frustrating, so it is an important couple of months for us."But Terry is under no illusion that a difficult test awaits them at Anfield. Last season's 2-0 victory virtually sealed the title for the double winners but Terry knows it won't be easy despite Liverpool's poor start under new boss Hodgson."No doubt they will pick up," said Terry. "Hopefully it's later rather than sooner because Anfield is always a tough place to go to get any result."But we're confident that we're playing well at the moment, and wherever we go and whoever we're playing against, we are confident of winning, and we have to take the game to them."We've done well up there recently. It was a massive win there last season obviously with the importance of the game and the pressure, and other teams have gone there this season and won so we need to take advantage of that while they're not having a good time and we are. We need to capitalise and pick up the three points."Brazilian defender Alex returns to the ground where he made his Blues debut in 2007 and while Anfield holds special memories for him, he too admits victory against Liverpool is not to be expected without a battle."Winning at Liverpool last year was very important, and we know this will be a difficult game," he said."We must pay attention for 90 minutes. They have been a little bit down but we have to be strong in the game, in the counter-attack they are very dangerous and we have to score first in the game."We defend well, but we have to mark their forwards, Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard closely, they always start with those two and they are very dangerous if they are fit, so we have to make sure we pay attention and do not give them any space."
