Khumalo confident of instant impact

ew Spurs signing Bongani Khumalo says he can play a part in Harry Redknapp's first-team plans when he arrives at White Hart Lane in January. The South Africa centre back's £1.5 million transfer was confirmed this week although he will not be able to join Spurs until the winter transfer window. And despite facing competition from William Gallas, Ledley King, Michael Dawson and Sebastien Bassong he is confident of becoming a key part of the Spurs squad."At 23, I think I'm ready to challenge for a place in the first team," he told BBC Sport."It may take a bit of time to settle in but I've played at the World Cup and I have the confidence in my ability to play in the Premier League."Harry Redknapp's shown a lot of faith in my ability and I hope to be able to repay that."He added: "I think the manager is hoping I will be able to fit in to his plans straight away and I believe I'm good enough to do that."
