Boa Morte blow confirmed

West Ham have revealed that Luis Boa Morte's knee injury could keep him out of action until the New Year. The Portuguese forward sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage during Wednesday's Asia Trophy contest with Tottenham. An innocuous-looking challenge with Benoit Assou-Ekotto saw Boa Morte jar his knee and crumple to the turf in agony. Club medics tended to the injury on the field before the former Arsenal and Fulham ace was stretchered away with his leg in a brace. He was rushed straight to a Beijing city hospital for treatment, escorted by West Ham physio Tom Smith. Having been assessed, Boa Morte was then allowed to rejoin his team-mates at the team hotel, but he is now walking with the aid of crutches. Further tests are due to be carried out on the problem area once the swelling goes down, determining whether or not surgery will be required.
