McIlroy: Roo won't find City life easy

Sammy McIlroy believes Wayne Rooney could face a tough time if he makes the move across Manchester. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday confirmed in a statement that Rooney's representatives had told chief executive David Gill on August 14 that the player wanted to leave Old Trafford.Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with moves for the England striker.City boss Roberto Mancini this morning insisted there had been no contact with their rivals over Rooney - but McIlroy would not rule out the player moving across the city.He said: "It's an unbelievable situation. Carlos Tevez has done the same thing and at the moment has done very well."But to go just across the water with the fans at United loving him, he could be in for a rough ride."There was talk of a new contract and how he was going to stay for life, now he doesn't want to sign it.it's baffling me to be honest with you."McIlroy, who played nearly 350 games for United between 1971 and 1982 and also represented City later in his career, continued on BBC Radio Five Live: "Wayne thinks he's in a bit of a goldfish bowl at the moment, if he goes across the town it'll be even bigger."The 56-year-old, now manager of Morecambe, continued: "Agents can do their job without the player getting involved and he's probably had an offer he couldn't really refuse."From what I hear Manchester United have offered him the best contract they've offered any player - but City can top that."He was a young boy when he was at Everton and they were devastated when he left - and it'll be the same at Manchester United if he does leave them."I listened to Sir Alex yesterday. United have helped Wayne since he was a young lad leaving Everton, they were there for him."Now they want him to stay and show a bit of loyalty - but unfortunately these days it doesn't happen and loyalty seems to go out the window."Lots of fans will probably be hoping he does change his mind and I think Sir Alex wants him to - but these days money talks."
