Cardiff City: 100 Years of Professional Football

A new book is being launched this Saturday at the CCS by author Terry Grandin. Containing over 100 photographs, many of which have not been seen before, a large section of the book covers the "top" matches ever played, describing the action and all the events around the matches themselves. It also has everything for the lover of statistics, with every single player ever to have pulled on the Cardiff City shirt and every game played, even obscure matches in the Anglo-Scottish Cup, where we never even played a Scottish team! It also covers all the managers ever to take charge of Cardiff City and how well they did for us.There will be a book signing in the Club Shop at the Cardiff City Stadium starting at 9.30am this Saturday before the Bristol City match. The author will be there along with Don Murray, Gary Bell, Derek Showers, Roger Gibbins and Damon Searle who will all be signing the book, which will be available to buy for the first time anywhere on Saturday. The book costs £15.99This book is far more than a list of games and players, it is a genuine history of the Cardiff City we all love and I'm sure most Cardiff City fans would love reading through it and remembering the highs (and lows) we have all shared over the years. It will make a great Christmas present, or just to buy to enjoy, especially getting it signed. Terry hopes everyone enjoys reading the book as much as the he enjoyed writing it."This is the story of Cardiff City's 100 years as a professional football club.It tells of highs such as three FA Cup final appearances, a European Cup Winners Cup semi-final and numerous promotions, but also of lows as the club were forced to apply for re-election in 1934 just seven years after winning the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium. The resumption of league football after WW2 saw some glory regained as they twice won promotion to the top flight but on each occasion they were relegated and would go on to spend many seasons hovering between the bottom divisions. In 2003 they were promoted to the Championship after a play-off victory at the Millennium Stadium, five years later they reached the FA Cup final, while in 2010 they were on the brink of promotion to the Premier Division with yet another Wembley appearance. Many famous players have appeared in Bluebirds colours over the years and every international player with the club is recorded along with all the managers and complete statistics of every League, FA Cup, League Cup and Welsh Cup line-up as Cardiff City celebrate 100 years of professional football."Other information:Terry Grandin has written a number of Welsh football books, his first was "Red Dragons in Europe" which chronicled every Welsh Clubs foray into European football, of course Cardiff City play a major part in this book due to the success of European football for us in the 70's and 80's
