Everton will beat Liverpool, says Leighton Baines

Leighton Baines says Everton are aiming to beat Liverpool in Sunday's Merseyside derby to get on a roll after winning their first game of the season at Birmingham. Ahead of the international break David Moyes' men finally ended Birmingham's proud 18-match unbeaten home record with a 2-0 win.Liverpool's bleak start to the season and Everton's home advantage would usually give the Toffees great heart before a derby which is never less than hotly contested, regardless of league standings. Brummie beating: Leighton Baines (left) says it would have been unbearable to go into the international break without a win But so far this season the pair have seemingly been competing to prove who could start the worse. Everton's three points at St Andrews was their first win in seven attempts and, along with three draws, has managed to keep them one spot above the relegation zone - above Liverpool on goal difference only. But Baines believes Everton are in buoyant mood and ready to inflict more misery upon the beleaguered Anfield club, which has spent the last week in a sapping off-field battle over ownership. Sainted: Baines celebrates with Tim Cahill after the Aussie scored the winning goal to sstorm Birmingham's fortress 'The derby is obviously the biggest game for us and the one wealways look for first and getting a good result at Birmingham goinginto it has given us extra confidence,' said the England international. 'We won our first game of the season and obviously once that happensyou are looking to get on a roll so it is important for us to build onit and get another result this Sunday.'It would have been unbearable to go into the break without a win so at least we can say we have got that monkey off our back and have got that first win. Turmoil: Liverpool go into the derby at the end of a week that has brought a High Court battle 'Now we want to go on and really do ourselves justice. He added: 'The work in training will be intensive. 'The lads will come back from their internationals and everything will be geared towards that game. 'Everyone is looking forward to it and focused on it. I still dream of England: Everton's Baines hasn't called time on careerFergie and Moyes will inspire me.
