Hume close to tears after return

The Canada international, who also suffered internal bleeding after being elbowed by Sheffield United skipper Chris Morgan at Oakwell in November, played most of the second half in Tuesday's 1-0 win against Gainsborough. Hume told the club's official website: "After eight months just getting back out there was brilliant. I have to admit that I was a close to tears when I ran onto the pitch because of everything and the fact that it had been so long. "It was a great reception. It was not just the Barnsley supporters and players, it was both teams and everybody in the stadium. It was such a fantastic ovation. Hume added: "It's not over. Not by a long way. It was a big step getting onto a football pitch again, but things are far from over in my eyes. I still have a lot to do and I'm way behind the rest of the lads in terms of match fitness. "To be fair I would not get a look in at the moment because Kayode (Odejayi), Jon (Macken), Daniel (Bogdanovic) and Onome (Sodje) have had great pre-seasons. Tuesday night was the first step back and I'm looking forward to the next one."
