Timing of break frustrates Martinez

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has bemoaned the timing of the international break - but hopes his men can pick up where they left off on Saturday. Latics beat Wolves 2-0 on 2 October and will be looking to continue their encouraging form when the Premier League resumes this weekend. However, Martinez feels the fortnight off can disrupt a team's momentum, with many players jetting off around the world to play for their countries.Martinez admits it is frustrating, having also gone into the previous international break after a 1-0 victory at Tottenham."It's the same situation that followed the Spurs game," he told the Wigan Observer."We got ourselves a fantastic win and then went into an international break. "But as usual we're going to work hard to make best out of a bad situation, regenerating the bodies and preparing them for the next game."Martinez believes Wigan's squad is stronger than at any time they have been in the Premier League and although results may not yet be backing up that assertion - Latics are currently 14th with just two victories - the manager can see improvements."You can see the concentration on the players' faces because they know the competition in the squad is fierce and they need to perform to keep their place," he said."The options we have in the squad at the moment and the strength on the bench is something I don't think we've ever had during our time in the Premier League."
