Pompey hunt after Naughton no-go

Portsmouth have been left frustrated in their efforts to land Kyle Naughton on loan from Tottenham and are now looking elsewhere. Steve Cotterill had been hoping to land Spurs defender Naughton on a short-term loan, but has seen inter-club politics scupper his attempts. With the two sides still at loggerheads regarding an unpaid £1million sell-on clause surrounding Asmir Begovic, relations between the pair have soured. That has forced Cotterill to re-enter the transfer market as he looks to bring a new right-back on board.Youngster Joel Ward has impressed in the position so far this term, but a more experienced head would be preferable.Cotterill is confident that he is close to landing a new recruit, although he has stopped short of revealing the identity of the man in question. He told The News: "Kyle is still somebody I would like to have. But I need to be making contingency plans because of what's going on between the clubs."There is a political position there that is difficult for Tottenham as well, which I appreciate."So we might have to move somewhere else short-term, for a month, and then maybe see what happens in a month's time."I have made one call, the manager is happy about it, the player wants a little bit of time to think about it, which is fair enough because he probably just got pulled out of the blue."He will come in for a month initially and if he does well it might be for a bit longer."
