Jose: Cole can set new caps record

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho thinks that Blues defender Ashley Cole can become England's most-capped player of all time. The pair worked together at Stamford Bridge following Cole's arrival from London rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2006.And Mourinho was suitably impressed by the left-back, who, despite unpopularity among fans, has gone on to become arguably the best player in his position in the world.Cole will equal Kenny Sansom's record of 86 caps for a full-back when he plays against Montenegro on Tuesday night. But Mourinho reckons the 29-year-old can also go on to eclipse Peter Shilton's overall total of 125 England appearances. The Portuguese told the Daily Star: "Ash equals a record but has years and years in front of him to establish a great record. "I congratulate him and wish him a trophy with England to make his career a perfect one. A great player but a better man." Former England left-back Stuart Pearce, who is the current manager of the Under-21s, is also in no doubt about Cole's ability."Ashley's pace is a real big strength, his ability on the ball and the way in which he deals with the ball for a full-back is outstanding," said Pearce. "Ashley is the best left-back England's ever had, 100 per cent. It is hard to find a weakness in his game. At the highest level, his performances for England have been fantastic."
