Cherries: McQuoid still learning strike role

LEVEL-headed Josh McQuoid admits he has yet to master the art of centre-forward play but the rising star is vowing to keep learning about what he now sees as his best position. The homegrown prospect has forced his way into Eddie Howe's first-choice XI with a string of eye-catching displays following the departure of Brett Pitman. Hitting the net against Tranmere, Notts County, Huddersfield and Dagenham and Redbridge propelled McQuoid to the top of the League One goalscoring charts. Having been used as a winger for much of his time in the senior set-up, McQuoid believes he could now best suited to a central attacking role. And the Northern Ireland under-21 frontman, who is set |to feature for Cherries in |today's Sky televised clash at Brighton (12.15pm), is determined to continue his steep improvement. Speaking ahead of the trip to Withdean, he said: I think I'm learning the position every time I play up there. I enjoy it and I think that's going to be my main position, which is a good thing because I can play on the wing as well if I'm needed to. I think I'm best suited there (centre forward). I enjoy it, I'm learning it very quickly and I understand it quite well. When asked if he felt he had perfected the role, grounded McQuoid replied: No, you never really do until you reach the top level. I've got a lot to learn and I'll just keep on learning. I'm not there yet. You take in everything you can in training, in games, ask the gaffer and ask other players, so I'm just always trying to learn. McQuoid's immediate aims are to maintain his performance levels and find the net regularly. I haven't scored for three or four games now but I'm not too worried about that, but it would be nice to start scoring again soon, he said. I played a lot of games without scoring so I don't let it affect me. I'll just do what I can to help the team play well. Discussing today's match, he added: It should be a great game it's good for the lads to be on TV. I think there's no pressure going into it. We're just going to play our usual game. It's going to be a hard game because they're top of the league and doing well but, then again, we're doing well. People didn't expect us to do what we have done so far, so we're just going to carry on trying to surprise people.
