Phil Thompson 300* More LFC takeover news here and follow us on Twitter for the latest updates hereANFIELD legend Phil Thompson today called on Liverpool's prospective new owners to give fans a voice on the new Board.The former skipper and assistant manager gave a cautious welcome to news that New England Sports Ventures (NESV) have agreed a £300million deal to buy the Reds.The takeover is subject to a legal challenge from Tom Hicks and George Gillett who argue Liverpool's directors have undervalued the club. However, chairman Martin Broughton believes the sale will be approved and Thompson wants NESV, who also own Boston Red Sox baseball team, to engage with supporters and allow them to be part of the decision making process.'The new owners need to listen to the fans,' Thompson said.'I'd like a fan experienced in business who is associated with Share Liverpool or Spirit of Shankly and who has the club at heart to be put on the Board.'Hicks and Gillett never listened and our fans have been kept in the background for too long.'They deserve a voice and they need to be able to have their say. That would be a great gesture from the new owners.'Thompson, who made 477 appearances for the Reds between 1972 and 1983, is relieved that Hicks and Gillett's disastrous three-and-a-half year reign is coming to an end.'I just hope the deal is approved quickly and there is no way back for them,' he added.
