Wilkins doubts City title tilt

Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has questioned Manchester City's title credentials despite their good start to the season. City currently lie second in the Premier League table just four points behind champions Chelsea and defeated the West Londoners 1-0 at Eastlands last month.Roberto Mancini splashed the cash on new talent during the summer but despite their strength in depth, Wilkins does not believe they will be challenging come May."It will always be Manchester United, it will always be Arsenal," he said in the Independent."They will always be there or thereabouts. Yes, City, as fabulous a group of footballers as they have, have got to gel as a unit. "They are getting results and good luck to them as well, but it's never easy when you are just pulling guys together and hoping that it will come together. "It's very tough and Roberto (Mancini) is doing a good job for them as well."Chelsea beat title rivals Arsenal 2-0 at the weekend and look in good shape to retain their status as top-flight champions under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti.Michael Essien is enjoying an injury-free run in the first-team this term after frustrations in recent years. The 27-year-old Ghanaian midfielder believes City made wise choices in the transfer market this summer, but echoes Wilkins' sentiments regarding their stamina."They've made good signings this season," Essien added. "They will be up for it. I don't know if they will have the stamina but they've got the players to do the job."
