Defender to miss start of season

The 27-year-old centre-half was hoping to be fit for the big kick-off next month, but he has yet to fully recover from the broken kneecap he suffered in March."Unfortunately, I have broken down again," he told the East Anglian Daily Times."I had been working my way back, allowing my leg muscles to strengthen again during May. I had a lot of June off, but when I came back the knee started to hurt a bit."I was desperate to get back into shape during pre-season, and it went well for the first three days, until I broke down, which meant that I had to go back to the consultant."The results of the scan were good, in that the bone had fused together as it should, so it was nothing serious. I seem to have irritated the knee, so I have to let it settle down and bide my time."
