Bruce happy to wait for Gordon tonic

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce admits he will not rush fit-again goalkeeper Craig Gordon back into action due to the form of Simon Mignolet. Gordon made his comeback for Sunderland reserves on Monday night after two months on the sidelines with a broken arm.The Scotland international admitted after coming through the reserve outing that he was targeting a return to first-team action against Manchester United this weekend."I am back in training and doing exactly what the other goalkeepers are doing. It is nice to be back in the group," said Gordon."My target is the Manchester United game."Assuming I have come through the reserve game unscathed, I could be available for the weekend."However, Bruce is not prepared to take any chances with the keeper, with Mignolet proving a more than capable deputy."With Simon's form being as it is it would be stupid to rush Craig back," said Bruce. "He's trained for a week and played his first game last night. The more he trains the better he will become."The competition is fierce at the moment and that's great. As a manager I want two people in every position."Simon's form at the moment has enabled us to not rush Craig back when maybe we might have done before."
