Jermaine Jenas claims he almost quit Tottenham but is now ready to fight for his place

Driving forward: Jermaine Jenas has overcome a difficult year to get back in Harry Redknapp's good booksJermaine Jenas is ready to fight for his place at Tottenham despite admitting he almost walked away from the club during the summer. The England midfielder has endured an injury-hit year at White Hart Lane and as a result fallen down the pecking order behind Tom Huddlestone, Wilson Palacios, Luka Modric and new signing Rafael van der Vaart. Jenas was fearful of losing his place in the Spurs side and so fought through a groin complaint during much of the last campaign. But ultimately it caught up with him.'I was carrying a groin injury for at least a year - maybe because I was under a bit of pressure in my own position and I was trying to just delay, delay, delay the surgery,' Jenas said. 'But I had to do it in the end.'I was taking painkillers to try to get through it and in the end it just broke down.'The 27-year-old, who started and scored in Fabiop Capello's first match in charge of England, has long been linked with a move away from Spurs. Jenas claims he turned down a number of approaches from other clubs but insists he couldn't be happier. 'There has been constant rumours about me leaving but I just wanted to be settled and part of the Tottenham team again,' he continued. Champion feeling: Jermaine Jenas is delighted to be playing in the Champions League with Tottenham'At one time I felt I'd have to leave because all I wanted to do was play football and I wasn't getting games here. But despite the offers that came in, they were not worth leaving for.'There's Champions League football now and I'll be fighting tooth and nail to get a regular starting place.'This is the best I've felt since a few years ago.'  Jermaine Jenas thrilled by Spurs' flying start against Werder Bremen in Champions LeagueWest Ham 1 Tottenham 0: Green back to his best after World Cup nightmareJuventus eyeing shock loan swoop for out-of-favour Tottenham star JenasTOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC
