Boro confirm Downing deal
Middlesbrough have confirmed Stewart Downing is on his way to Aston Villa after accepting an undisclosed bid for the winger. Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday that Downing was heading for talks with Villa after a fee of £12million was agreed between the two clubs.Downing spent the afternoon at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground discussing personal terms and undergoing a medical.The England international is now close to finalising a return to the Premier League, with Downing expected to sign a four-year contract.The 24-year-old is currently recovering from a broken foot sustained against Villa at the end of last season, but it is not anticipated to pose any problems with passing the medical.He has been pencilled in for a return to first-team action in October when it appears likely he will be pulling on a Villa shirt.
