Reid baffled by referee's decisions

Hamilton boss Billy Reid was baffled by the decisions of referee Crawford Allan as the home side held to a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock in the SPL. Accies appeared to be cruising at New Douglas Park on Saturday thanks to first-half goals from Flavio Paixao and Nigel Hasselbaink before Killie staged an incredible comeback in the second half. They hauled themselves back into the game in controversial circumstances when Tomas Cerny saved Jamie Hamill's penalty only for the referee to order a retake and Hamill to score at the second attempt, before Conor Sammon grabbed a late equaliser. And Reid believes the referee had far too much influence on the outcome of the game."We should have won the game out of the park but you've got to give credit to Kilmarnock for coming back into the game after being 2-0 down," Reid said."They got the penalty and I thought we could have had a stonewall penalty before it and the referee didn't give us it as usual."The goalie made a fantastic save and it went out for a corner and I don't think anybody would have blinked an eye."But, for some reason, he pulled it back and put it on the spot again, saying the two teams encroached. I think that happens in every game in Scotland, it happens in every game throughout the world."I don't think anybody would have been saying anything, all they would have been speaking about is Cerny's fantastic save."He orders the retake and Kilmarnock get a lifeline. I think the referee had a major influence on the game today."Reid was also furious that Hamilton were not awarded a penalty of their own for a foul on Jim Goodwin which could have handed them a three-goal lead.He added: "I don't know how it wasn't given. Jim Goodwin is barged in the back. I've not seen it on a monitor but I saw it myself."It happened three weeks ago against Hearts as well when Flavio was punched in the back. We've conceded six penalties this season and haven't had one ourselves."Kilmarnock boss Mixu Paatelainen felt both penalty decisions were correctly and backed the decision to retake the penalty. He said: "If the referee felt that players were inside too early then it has to be retaken whether he scores or not."For us, it was great that he had a second chance and buried it. I thought it was deserved and the equaliser was deserved as well."With a lengthy delay between both penalties, Paatelainen wanted Alexei Eremenko to step up to the spot the second time but praised Hamill for his stubbornness. He said: "It took a very long time and he missed it first time. Jamie is a very strong character, he's a strong person and tough mentally."But it took a very long time and I know myself, if it takes a long time, it's not a comfortable situation."I felt we should change the penalty taker and I know that Alexei has taken loads of penalties and has scored penalties wherever he has been and I thought it would have been good for him to take it."But Jamie told him to go away and I like that, it's confidence and it's taking responsibility."Paatelainen added: "I must say the first half is the worst we have played this season, even against the Old Firm. I couldn't wait for half-time."I couldn't be more pleased with the second half, it was absolutely fantastic. We could have won it in the end but I think a draw was a fair result."
