Arfield ready for Europa League test

The 20-year-old midfielder is relishing the prospect of the club's first European tie after the Bairns qualified on the back of reaching last season's Homecoming Scottish Cup final. Big changes have taken place on and off the park since the 1-0 defeat to Rangers at Hampden in May, with ex-midfielder Eddie May installed as new manager following the departure of John Hughes to Hibernian. May has had little time to formulate his plans but has moved a number of players on and brought four new faces in. Despite the quick turnaround since last term, Arfield feels the squad are ready for the second qualifying round first leg meeting with the Liechtenstein outfit at the Falkirk stadium. The Scotland Under-21 international said: "It's another stage you want to play on, it's a great achievement for everyone associated with the club. "We want to make the most of it. The first game is at home so we're looking to keep a clean sheet, score a couple of goals and hopefully get through to the next round. "I think it was three weeks ago we were back training and it's been brilliant. "The gaffer has put us through our paces, he's playing a new kind of formation and there is a great atmosphere around. "The gaffer was my manager at under-19 level so I know what his philosophies are. We know how he wants to play." May, set to hand immediate debuts to Marc Twaddle, Ryan Flynn, Alex MacDonald and Brian McLean, is unsure how his young side will handle the occasion. But 41-year-old has seen signs of early progress. He said: "We are doing well and the team is getting a lot fitter. "The players have a better understanding of what we are trying to achieve and we are really looking forward to Thursday night. "We will try and gel quickly. I have tried to bring in good football players and we are trying to work towards something."
