Stoke City boss Tony Pulis says the best is yet to come from Kenwyne Jones

Stoke manager Tony Pulis believes the best is still to come from club record signing Kenwyne Jones. The £8million summer arrival from Sunderland has scored three goals in his last three games across all competitions after an injury-interrupted start to his Potters career. Pulis still believes the Trinidad and Tobago international has plenty more to offer. The best is yet to come: Stoke boss Tony Pulis says Kenwyne Jones has plenty more to offer 'Kenwyne's got all the tools to be an outstanding player for this club,' said Pulis. 'Three goals in his last three games have helped his confidence, but I firmly believe there is a lot more to come from the lad. 'We still think he can get fitter, he can be a lot sharper, and if he manages to do that, then he will be a real handful for defenders. In Toon: Pulis admits he was interested in Andy Carroll 'Having said that, he's worked really hard to overcome the injury setback and he has worked well with the other players too, so we're delighted with the impact he has already made. 'He is a fantastic signing for this club.' Competition for centre-forward places increased over the summer as Pulis also brought in Eidur Gudjohnsen and Ipswich's Jon Walters, who can operate either up front or wide on the right. Pulis hopes that will make Stoke stronger over time as it makes existing players like Ricardo Fuller up their game. 'I am sure that Kenwyne's presence will bring the best of him and they could be quite a partnership,' Pulis explained. 'When we get Eidur Gudjohnsen fit, then we'll have great competition for places. 'We knew it would take a bit of time to get him right and we understand that, but others in the squad are responding to the challenge of competing for places.' Stoke face Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday and, had the opportunity arisen it could have been the Magpies' Andy Carroll who swapped the black and white stripes for red and white. Pulis told stokecityfc.com: 'We've looked at Andy, but there have been loads of clubs looking at him, and I am sure there will be a lot more in the future. 'Newcastle knew they had something they wanted to keep and fair play to them. 'He has played at every representative level for England except full international, but I don't believe it will be all that long before he wins a full cap.'  Newcastle v STOKE: Jermaine Pennant set to return after minor injury setbackEidur edges closer to full fitness for Stoke after turning out for reservesStoke City 2 Fulham 0: Higginbotham and Jones are head boys for PulisSTOKE FC
