JJ throws weight behind Hughes

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies has thrown his support behind embattled Hibernian boss John Hughes, saying he is a "determined character". Hibs, who travel to Celtic on Saturday, are without a win at home in nine games and were booed off in their last two matches at Easter Road.Hibs, like Edinburgh rivals Hearts, exited the Co-operative Insurance Cup this week, but Jefferies has backed Hughes to turn fortunes around.Jefferies, who managed Hughes at Falkirk in the 1990s, said: "John Hughes is the most determined character I've ever come across."Why is everybody panicking in September?"He could easily go on a run of games."Hearts, meanwhile, will not appeal against Craig Thomson's dismissal in Tuesday's 4-3 loss at Falkirk.Jefferies added: "I've seen it on the video and had a word with him and he didn't make any contact but there was intent there."There's nothing to appeal against."
