Jovanovic stunned by cup 'catastrophe'

iverpool forward Milan Jovanovic has branded the Carling Cup exit to League Two side Northampton a "catastrophe". The Serbia international got the Reds off to an ideal start with his first goal for the club after just nine minutes. However, it went rapidly downhill from there and although David Ngog snatched a late equaliser in extra time to make it 2-2 Liverpool went out on penalties, the first time they had gone out to fourth-tier opposition."Catastrophe. I am so disappointed," said Jovanovic on the result."We know this is not Liverpool. It is very bad."I am so surprised by the performance. I have not got enough experience of English football but I didn't expect this."Northampton played a really good game. We played a bad game - but this is football."Jovanovic added in the Liverpool Echo: "I am so disappointed. We all are."We are sorry for the result but we have to move on now."Liverpool's league position of 16th is false as they have played Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in their opening fixtures as well as having a tough trip to Birmingham. But the nature of the early results means they are still only three points adrift of fourth-placed City, which is why it is important for Roy Hodgson's big names to produce a performance against Sunderland."Every game from now is very important," Jovanovic told the Liverpool Echo."We have got five points from five games. It is not enough but we have had five very difficult games."We just have to pass one difficult test (against Sunderland) and maybe in the next three or four games we can start to collect a lot of points."We have to stick together."Fellow forward Ryan Babel admitted he "failed personally" on Wednesday night."No excuses for last nite. We weren't good enough," he wrote on his Twitter page."And I failed personally. Haven't lost faith, so I keep working."
